The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.

The town of Paggaio is situated under the shadow of a mythical and sacred mountain, Paggeo, from which the town took its name. The town, crowned by Trikorphos, the three renowned summits of Paggeo, extends across the mountainsides and reaches the valley of Philippoi.

Paggaio used to be a famous resort for recreational purposes. All the districts of the town are interwoven with traditional architecture: the squares with the fountains and spring water, the alleys with the old houses and the new ones retaining the same traditional characteristics contribute to the diversity of the area. The creation of the Municipal Enterprise for the Development of Tourism, Culture and Sports by the Municipality, as well as the vision for the creation of a Sports and Camping centre in Livadi in Nikissiani, of a Recreational Park in Paleochori and an Open Theatre in the old
quarry will all contribute to the development of eco-tourism and offer a great opportunity
for quality summer holidays.

The town has a strong tradition in ceramics, dating from as early as the ancient times. However, today there are only a few professionals left working in the field. Other small crafts are, on the other hand, highly represented in the area and make up for a large proportion of its economy. Yet the small ateliers and SMEs characteristic of the sector are continuously facing difficulties today. The city's aim thus is to revive and rejuvenate the ceramics and small crafts sector and make a strong link to the flourishing tourist industry of the area as well, with special emphasis on the eco-tourism sector.
